Very Important Pet Parent Spotlight

Meghan & Jamie Puckett, London & October

What brought you to Florida?
I (Meghan) moved to Florida in 2004 with my family. Jamie moved to Florida to coach baseball in 2012. Jamie and I are both elementary school teachers in Duval County.

Have you always had pets?
Yes

Please introduce us to your Fur Family. How did you meet and become FURever companions?
London- 12 year old black lab– I met London when she was 8, I was dating her dad at the time. London and I had an instant connection–she would follow me everywhere. London’s dad (Matt), was killed in a car accident in 2016. London had bonded with my dog at the time, Leila, so it was a must that the 3 of us stay together.

October– 2 year old black cat– Jamie and I tried fostering through the Jacksonville Humane Society. In August, we brought home Angel Hair and her 4 babies. At the time, we did not realize that the Humane Society had a return to field program for all of their momma cats once they were done nursing. So in September, we made it official and brought Angel Hair, now known as October, home. She is still adjusting to being an indoor cat, but we hope she can live the rest of her years as a happy house cat. I guess you can call us foster failures.

What do you love most about your pets?
London– is the happiest dog you will ever meet. Her tail is constantly in motion and she has the happiest, goofiest smile. She is food obsessed so she loves meal time! She will dance around the kitchen until dinner is served!

October– loves to carry around these little mice babies in her mouth. One day we found her with 4 of them right in front of her, it was as though she thought they were her actual babies. It was the cutest thing.

How has 9 to 5 Pets made your life easier?
We started using 9 to 5 Pets when our other dog, Leila was very sick. She was needing frequent bathroom breaks so we looked to 9 to 5 Pets to help us out. Once Leila passed, we just couldn’t take away the pet sitter for London. If you could see London’s face in all the photos they send you would see why we had to keep using 9 to 5 Pets.

What are your favorite activities you share with your pets?
London and I love napping together on Saturdays. London puts her head on the pillow and just totally relaxes! London loves going for walks with Jamie or for car rides to Canopy Road Cafe for her free piece of bacon on Saturday mornings.

October loves sitting outside with Jamie on the back porch and hunting for lizards.

Share a fond memory with your pets:
London and Leila were a part of our engagement story. London who always greets me at the door first was wearing a bandanna that said, “Hey Mom” and Leila was wearing a bandanna that said, “Say Yes”. Such a special memory with our special girls.

What life lessons have you learned from your Fur Family?
I stole this quote from someone who was describing a dog’s unconditional love but feel it applies to our Fur Family:

“When someone you love walks through the door, even if it happens 5 times a day, you should go totally insane with joy!”

London and October exude this type of excitement all the time.

If you had to wear a T-Shirt with one word on it for a year, what word would you choose?
Faith
