Very Important Pet Parent Spotlight

Bernadette R Daniels & Jett

What brought you to Florida?
It a nutshell – quality of life. Husband can work from anywhere for his company, and the traffic, weather, and taxes of the Northeast were getting ridiculous.

Have you always had pets?
Off and on throughout adulthood. I am a huge dog person and always wanted/needed to have dogs in my life.

Please introduce us to your Fur Family. How did you meet and become FURever companions?
Jett is a 10.5-year-old black lab mix that I rescued from the Alachua County SPCA in January of 2010. Yes… one look at his picture was all it took! We drove 2 hours to and from Gainesville to get him.

What do you love most about your pet?
Jett is the master of relaxation… he looks like the black Labrador retriever that he is, but he doesn’t act like one.

How has 9 to 5 Pets made your life easier?
9 to 5 Pets is amazing! When they are watching Jett, I have no worries at all. They are so good with him… they know his quirks… and Jett absolutely loves when his “aunt” Jen comes to visit!

What are your favorite activities you share with your pet?
Walks, relaxing, the beach, car rides, eating ice cream (he loves his doggy ice cream!)

Share a fond memory with your pet:
I had rescued another black lab mix from Jacksonville’s Animal Care and Protective Services in September of 2011. Trixie was an emaciated stray and on the E-list at that shelter. I took Jett with me to meet her, in which he wanted NO part of. It was instant love for me… Jett not so much… but there was no way I was leaving without her. So I brought her home with us. Later that night while everyone was relaxing, they cuddled up with each other and I knew at that point it would be ok. Trixie was definitely my girl and had a great life with us for 6 years until she passed in March of 2017. I miss her everyday.

What life lessons have you learned from your Fur Family?
Live life to the fullest… enjoy each day and don’t sweat the small stuff.

If you had to wear a T-Shirt with one word on it for a year, what word would you choose?
DogMa

If you could instantly become an expert in something what would it be?
Dogspeak. I would love to know as much or more than Cesar Milan.

What is the best gift anyone has ever given to you?
Rebel, my Rottweiler that I raised from a 9-week old pup. It was my 25th birthday gift from a former boyfriend. That dog was the love of my life and a great dog. I miss him dearly.
