Since the holiday season is a popular time to get a pet, we would like to promote adopting this holiday season and highlight several rescue organizations in our community. According to the Humane Society of the United States, more than one million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized each year. Adopting not only saves lives, but it will cost you less, help other animals in need, fight illegal breeding such as puppy mills, and much more.

Fur Sisters Rescue was originally highlighted on our blog post “The Gift of Fostering Rescues.” Kelly Krehbiel started Fur Sisters Rescue in 2016 to combat overpopulation and reduce euthanasia rates. Fur Sisters pulls dogs from surrounding rural country shelters, gets them veterinary care, and places them in foster homes until they’re adopted. They have saved thousands of dogs using a network of foster homes.
